| Fun with Republicans |

http://friaryid.blogspot.com/2008/05/fun-with-republicans.html It's always amusing to get my election pamphlet in the mail. I often wind up reading the pamphlet several times before the election. It's not so much that I find city politics so fascinating; rather, it's the entertainment factor in seeing decades-old political grudges being re-displayed in public. The last two elections have seen ballot measures explicitly targeting the mayor (last election) and

Just sent my first N3 story out for beta. I no longer like anything about the story. I can no longer even remember why I wanted to write it in the first place. I don't remember why I've ever wanted to write anything.
Today was the talent show at school. I sang "Son of a Preacher Man" while Sarah and I danced -- I was just supposed to sing, but at the last minute she decided she wanted both of us to do both things. I acquitted myself pretty well, given that my hands were covered in icing (I was manning the bake sale table when our names got called, unexpectedly early) and I hadn't prepared myself to do spontaneous interpretive dance! Later on, she and I and 4 others did some Irish ceili dancing. Our most difficult student, who's on the verge of expulsion if he doesn't get his crap together, capped the afternoon by climbing on the church roof. No, that wasn't part of the talent show.

cadhla was the GOH at Boskone. And she did some concerts, sometimes with friends.
I...took video from a bunch of them, oddly enough. The video even has music. Surprising how good a video from a tiny camera can sound, really. Eventually, I got around to getting permission, and got around to getting them all up on Youtube.
So, only three months later, here are some songs from Boskone!
( cut tagged for your protection -- warning, music here! )

| You're Kidding, Right? |

http://friaryid.blogspot.com/2008/05/youre-kidding-right.html I read this a few days ago and it made me want to blow something up:
The sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products at drug stores would be illegal in San Francisco if an ordinance introduced this week by Mayor Gavin Newsom wins approval. The proposed law is designed to curb tobacco sales at stores where pharmacists work, but would not apply to big box businesses such as Costco or to grocery

| Obama vs. Clinton: How over is it? |
[14 May 2008|12:56pm] |
A month ago I posted to show that Obama would win the Democratic nomination - that he'd already won enough votes and delegates to ensure his eventual victory, and there was no reasonable scenario for Clinton to campaign her way to a win.*
Yesterday, Clinton won West Virginia 67% - 26% - 7% (Edwards), her second-biggest percentage win so far, and only the second state where she's hit 60%. She gave a victory speech where she implied she could still win. In case this leaves you wondering whether she's making a comeback, or has a chance, here's ( an update on the delegate math... )
Short answer: No. She's so far behind that her WV win actually left her worse off.
Oregon will probably finish it.
Update: Last night, John Edwards endorsed Obama. ( How this affects delegates... ) Overall, this probably means a +11 - +17 delegate gain for Obama, and cuts Clinton's possible advantage from seating Florida by ~6-13 depending on how Florida is handled.
* Clinton could still be nominated if some big unexpected thing happens, such as a Spitzer-like scandal, but that's not something she can campaign for; if it happens, it'll happen, regardless of what she does.

I suspect some organized mischief inflicted on wikipedia regarding the NJ senatorial primary. Can I find out if 67.233.220.* and 67.233.221.* are assigned to the same location?

| A bojic quotation requiring especial attention from Democrats |
[13 May 2008|11:04pm] |
Can the blind guide the blind? Won't they both fall into a pit? A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher. Why do you see the speck of chaff that is in your brother's eye, but don't consider the beam that is in your own eye? Or how can you tell your brother, 'Brother, let me remove the speck of chaff that is in your eye,' when you yourself don't see the beam that is in your own eye? You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck of chaff that is in your brother's eye. For there is no good tree that brings forth rotten fruit; nor again a rotten tree that brings forth good fruit. For each tree is known by its own fruit. For people don't gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings out that which is good, and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings out that which is evil, for out of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks.

My attention is looping between the conversation going on at the other end of the table, the TV across the coffee shop, and my work. It's a very consistent loop.
I brush over the surface of an idea, read over the story a bit, find a place to anchor the idea, and put it in the outline. It's all very vague. That's OK.

Josh Marshall explains that it’s the Appalachian geographical region where Obama does poorly, and notes that West Virginia, in particular, was anti-slave: http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/194870.php

Some days are better than others.
Today I had a chiropractor appointment, and took the baby, who slept nicely through it. Then we had a visit to Daddy's office.
We skipped a trip to Sanford to pick up a birth certificate, and a trip to Babies R Us to get some stuff we need at home and to get a gift for a baby shower on Saturday. And a side trip to the grocery store or something similar.
Naomi also had her first stroller ride tonight, too.
We'll see how the night goes.
